How do you do it? Listening to how you feel is the problem. Using IF/THEN logic doesn’t work. Why not? Because your brain wants to keep things exactly as they are. Safe, comfortable. Even if that is uncomfortable, at least it’s known. Preserve the energy you have without spending anything more than needed to keep you alive. Because what you know is safe. Venturing into the unknown MIGHT not be safe, so why risk it?
If you stay where you are, at least you know what HERE looks and feels like. HERE is safe, over THERE…well, it’s just unknown, right? You know what will happen if you stay here. But you do not know what happens when you venture outside your comfort zone. So how do you do it? How do you start? You don’t think about it. You just start.
You can’t THINK your way to starting. Doing something that is uncomfortable? You will always find an excuse. You will always find an excuse because, in that moment, you will be so focused on finding ANY excuse. So you lose even before you start. Trying to out-think the problem? You don’t stand a chance. That is why you develop a plan. You think about what you want to do BEFORE you have to do it. You make the decision the day before, not the moment before. You plan. So you don’t have to think when your brain is looking for an excuse. Then you repeat. You keep going until you make it a habit. Stay focused on why you are doing it – the promotion you want, the weight you don’t want, the goal you aim for. Keep reminding yourself of your decision. Then you just keep starting. Not thinking. Until you are on your way, and you find out, over THERE is so much better.
